Nowadays, people are looking for ways to make lives better and work easier. We invent things and technologies that will change the way we view life. However, sometimes there are still details that walk past our intricate minds, for like example the computer. The computer has a huge help in making our school works and office works way lot simple but the equipment’s design cannot yet be labeled “perfect”. Details and parts of the computer may have contributed to pains in our body, specifically our hands. Good thing, there are studies conducted on how to reduced tension in our body. This discipline called Ergonomics tend to understand and improve human interactions with products, equipment, environments and systems like computers. Ergonomics deals with the study of equipment, its interaction and how it will fit the human body, the different movements as well as the cognitive abilities.

Do you feel extreme numbness in your wrist? Carpal tunnel syndrome is one of the most common discomforts experienced and complained by computer users. This syndrome is characterized by the pain our wrist that resulted from wrong “mousing” when using computers. Pain in carpal tunnel syndrome is mainly numbness that is so severe that it wakes one from slumber.  The importance of wrist braces and splints in the carpal tunnel syndrome therapy is well-known, but many people are not willing to wear such things.  This is where the ergonomic computer mouse comes to the picture.

Ergonomic computer mouse is invented to prevent carpal tunnel syndrome. Such mouse is designed to reduce further pain that can be experience by mouse users. Usually, computer users work with mouse that comes with their computer package. Traditionally, it looks like a half oval shaped two button mouse with or without a scroll in the middle. This designed worked for long time until, users started to feel pain in their wrists. The pain is caused by improper position of “mousing” that leads to applying pressure on the median nerve.

As time goes by, manufacturers have started producing ergonomic computer mouse that take different approaches toward easing stress on that nerve. The four basic categories of ergonomic computer mouse designs are the following: Traditional half moon shaped mouse, traditional mouse with wrist extensions, extreme ergonomic mouse and mouse alternatives.

Traditional mouse, like the Microsoft Explorer Mouse, are made sculpted to make it more form fitting to the user’s hand. Traditional mouse, like Perfit Mouse, with wrist extensions give support by inhibiting the wrist from dropping and resting straight on the tabletop. Extreme ergonomic mouse, like Zero Tension Mouse, prevents Carpal Tunnel syndrome but has a design so much different from traditional that it gives user a hard time adjusting. Mouse alternatives like trackballs and other devices allow other parts of the body, such as eyes and feet, to control the cursor.

Different ergonomic computer mouse are now available in the market and consumers can choose what features they want and the ones that fit their budget. Decide first thoroughly before buying anything so for now, take your pick!

Benefits of ergonomic computer mouse

The computer mouse is a device which is used to input signals to control curser movement from outside. This was invented around 40 years ago. Since then, its design has not seen any noticeable change till now. The ever increasing use of a computer has given way to certain medical disordered which is known as ‘carpel tunnel’ this is caused do to the prolonged and repetitive use of hand and palm in the same posture. The new designs invented with an aim to avoid this disease are known as ‘ergonomic computer mouse’. Along with the traditional mouse, wireless mouse are now also available in ergonomic designs. These are proving very helpful in preventing ‘carpel tunnel’. Therefore replacing your old traditional mouse with a new ergonomic design mouse is not a bad idea for those who care for their health.
in addition to the ‘carpel tunnel’ the other health disorder associated with the computer usage is known as ‘cumulative trauma disorders’. This is also caused due to the excessive usage of hand and palm in order to operate the mouse of a computer. The prolonged holding of mouse in a specific position and pressing of mouse buttons with the finger cause injury to the joints and muscles. With the traditional shaped mouse hand remain in a fixed position for a very long duration. To avoid the bad affects of this, a wrist supporter is a cheap and easy solution. Long sessions in front of computer, the speed of computer and the quality of mouse all these contribute towards carpel tunnel and cumulative trauma disorder. The symptoms attached with these disorders are pain for long durations, numbness or weakening of grip to hold things.

The ergonomic computer mouse has been invented to resolve the problems associated with the use of conventional shaped mouse. These mice come as standard or wireless. These are available in different shapes and sizes to fit the palm of an individual. The basic idea behind these designs is the same that the hand should stay in a comfortable position with less and less strain on the muscles and joints. Some mice are thumb operated, some are vertical like a joystick, and some have rectangular shape. The optical tracking mice are smoother in function and put less stress on the hand.
When an ergonomic computer mouse is combined with wireless technology, it provides a much better solution for the health related problems like carpel tunnel or ‘cumulative trauma disorders’ many new designs are available to provide comfort to your hand while operating mouse. Some provide a vertical scroll option which gives better results than the standard shape mouse. These mice also come in models suitable for use with right or left hand. The latest mice come with a click lock. This facilitates the use of mouse without holding the right button pressed while selecting some text. It is now feasible to select from a number of models with varying features, one which is most suitable for you. Selecting a suitable ergonomic mouse should be given priority as any delay in this regards may lead to serious health problems.

Avocent Delivers Wireless A/V & KVM Extension to 3,000 Feet: LongView Wireless 4500 Introduced at NCSA

HUNTSVILLE, AL; ORLANDO, FL (PRWEB) March 11, 2005

Avocent today announced technology demonstrations of the LongView® Wireless LV4500W, which connects keyboard, video/monitor, mouse (KVM) and audio devices to a computer in line of sight up to 3,000 feet away without cables. Demonstrations are available at the Digital Signage Showcase of the NSCA Systems Integration Expo in Orlando on March 10 through 12 at booth #342. With LongView Wireless, Avocent adds another industry first to its arsenal of connectivity solutions. The new long range wireless solution will enable system administrators to monitor and manage the data center from a remote location without the need to deploy additional cabling. In addition to its application in KVM extension, the new LongView Wireless 4500 may have the largest impact on the digital signage and A/V markets with its ability to deliver high quality video and audio without VGA cabling.

The LongView Wireless requires no software or drivers and is compatible with virtually any PC, display or operating system. The system includes a wireless transmitter and receiver, power supplies and audio cables. The transmitter connects directly to the computer and serves as the radio interface device enabling the computer to transmit audio and video data wirelessly. The receiver connects to remote output devices including a keyboard, monitor, mouse and audio. Data is transmitted automatically once the receiver is powered on and begins communicating with the transmitter. A comprehensive auto set up quickly determines and establishes optimal settings for content being transmitted. The firmware features a user-friendly On Screen Display (OSD) for making adjustments and tuning the video settings. The Longview Wireless 4500 reaches distances up to 3,000 feet in line of sight installations and up to 300 feet through walls. The embedded directional antennas located in both the transmitter and receiver units enable the greater transmission distances than the LongView Wireless 3500.

LongView Wireless greatly reduces the security risks associated with many wireless products by utilizing a proprietary 802.11a link layer protocol, proprietary video compression and AES encryption. Avocent video compression and skew compensation results in video clarity that surpasses CAT5. LongView Wireless transmits video from a source computer up to 30 frames per second with XGA resolution (1024 x 768).

“The ability to run video wirelessly with a high level of security will give our customers an unprecedented amount of flexibility on where to locate equipment while eliminating cabling and cabling costs,” said Matt Nelson, director of strategic business, Avocent Wireless Technology. “Avocent is proud to offer these technical innovations ushering digital signage, data centers, classrooms, courtrooms and conference facilities among others into the wireless era.”
